Burned

About a half hour before Cora and I arrived home from NJ, Seth had walked by the stove while Dan was in the bathroom with Aiden. For some reason known only to himself, he decided to touch the stovetop... which Dan had accidentally left on after making dinner for the boys. When I arrived, he was still howling. Three of his fingers have between 2nd and 3rd degree burns on them.
After running it under cold water for about 40 minutes and sending him to bed with an ice pack, we thought everything was going to be okay. A few hours later, as we were going to bed, the crying started up again. Seth was inconsolable, so Dan and I had to resort to the one thing we said we'd never do - let one of the kids sleep in our room. He didn't sleep in our bed though, and we made sure he understood it was a one-night-only arrangement. He had his pillow and some blankets on the floor and although we slept badly listening to him toss and turn all night, he burns seemed to heal much better knowing that we were nearby. Hopefully, a lesson was learned and no one will ever think that touching the stove is a good idea, but only time will tell.
