Park Cookout

One of the good friends I've made through MOPS this year, Melissa, and her family joined us this evening for a picnic dinner at a nearby park. (Her oldest boy is 11 months older than Aiden and Seth, and the younger boy is 8 months younger than them. And Melissa's daughter is two weeks younger than Cora. So we have a lot in common with our kids!)
The boys all played by the pond while Dan and Jake grilled dinner.
Even when Ethan, Owen and Seth would wander over to the balls, bat and lacrosse sticks that Melissa and Jake brought, Aiden would stay by the water. He told me he was "fishing" with the sticks that he was picking up. (Thankfully, he did keep from getting wet this time. That boy loves to be around water - and preferably getting in it, whether he's dressed for it or not!)
Cora and Emily caught up on their girl talk while our picnic was being set up.
After dinner, the kids went over to play on the playground for a few minutes. Seth and Aiden found a not-too-high fireman's pole that they were brave enough to try, and they had a lot of fun with that. (They love firemen, and have wanted to try other fireman poles, but get intimidated by the larger ones at the other parks we usually go to.)
To end the evening, we drove a few blocks down the road to a little ice-cream stand. It was the perfect end to a beautiful early summer day!

Wow... the boys look so grown up sitting with their friends next to the pond. That's a great candid shot!
