Celiac Walk

This past weekend, we traveled up to Marion on Friday to attend the 8th annual Making Tracks for Celiacs walk in Rochester. Ever since Dan's grandpa was diagnosed as having celiac disease a few years ago, there has been a large Loucks turnout for the celiac walk each May. This was only our second year walking though, as we had been in Texas the other years. The 17 of us met admidst a few hundred others at the Perington Park in Fairport on Saturday morning. We got our t-shirts, sampled some gluten-free cuisine, met a few friendly faces and were off around 10:30 for our 2.5 mile trek through the town of Fairport.
Emma, Aiden and Seth walked for a few blocks before deciding they wanted to ride. Emma wanted to ride in our stroller, which turned out great because Aiden wanted to ride in hers and Seth was happy to have a new stroller-mate.
At about the halfway point, there is an ice cream shop along the canal that offers free ice cream to everyone registered for the walk. This year, we decided to keep on walking instead of wait in the line and instead get our ice cream afterward (as our tickets were good until 4pm). We all made it back to the park around noon and enjoyed a picnic lunch together that Mom had organized. We had a lot of delicious food and the kids got to play on the jungle gym before we left.
We had our dessert of ice cream at the Lickity Splits in Fairport before heading our separate ways. It was a great morning for all of us in support of a wonderful cause.
